In the second of Susan Jung's two reports on finding the most delicious food in Penang, she tries an asam laksa that stuns her with its complex flavours and coconut rice so good she bought takeaway back to Hong Kong The food had been prepared by a septuagenarian vendor and his wife at Kheng Pin Cafe, a small hawker centre at the junction of Jalan Penang and Jalan Sri Bahari in George Town. In addition to the lor bak - deep-fried five-spice pork sausage wrapped in bean curd skin - we were also eating other fried foods, including prawn fritters and tofu, from a selection that ranged from 1.2 ringgit to 3 ringgit .

Having come from the food industry into the realm of reporting on restaurant subjects, I have learned that this business is as predictable as it is unpredictable. Who would think a major chain like Bonefish Grill , a McDonald's outfit, a beloved Wendy's location or Tilted Kilt, a desirable "breastaurant" concept elsewhere, could close on Staten Island? And is it possible to predict that a restaurant is going to fail? The answers to those initial questions might be straightforward: Unless an entrepreneur owns a building, his lease ultimately dictates the lifespan of his business.

As you head for Crabby's Seafood & More, situated in the Montebello Downtown Plaza, you may be drawn to the rich, spicy aromas of the birds revolving on skewers in the adjacent Zankou Chicken, arguably the best Armenian chicken shop in Southern California. But If you've got a hankering for seafood, you'll resist.

Artist Damien Hirst, 53, to close his restaurant in Devon seaside town after local traders accuse him of creating three 'eyesore' empty properties The 53-year-old artist announced yesterday that the eatery, which he set up with friend and chef Simon Brown, will cease trading next week. The Quay opened in 2004 and houses several of Hirst's works, including his famous spin and spot paintings, pharmacy cabinets and pickled fish.
With so many new items popping up on restaurant menus and at grocery stores all the time, it can be difficult to keep pace with the latest trends. More kids are eating at fast food chains like McDonald's, according to a new study, but parents are buying the healthier side options only about half the time. In the last few years, consumer advocacy groups have pressed restaurant chains to offer healthier kids meals and more nutritious side options like milk and fruit, and the restaurants have responded.
